Varnish HV 54

Enamel HV-54 is a fine suspension of pigments and fillers in a solution of vinyl resin mixed with organic solvents, with added plasticizers and additives. It is used for painting black or non-ferrous metal products for special applications for the military sector.

It is produced in a protective green color but can be manufactured in other colors upon request.

The enamel is applied on a primed surface. The primers used can be epoxy, vinyl, or acrylate-based, providing excellent adhesion with vinyl enamels. In this case, no special surface preparation is needed—just ensure that the enamel is applied on a dry, clean primed surface approximately 24 hours after priming. In rare cases, vinyl enamels can be applied without a primer, where a layer of vinyl enamel diluted with about 10% thinner HK acts as the primer.

Metal surfaces should be prepared by blasting to Sa2 ½ (ISO 8501-1). Welding slag should be removed, seams and welds should be ground, achieving an average surface profile value of RZ > 50 microns. The base should be free of contaminants, old coatings, dust, and oils that would impair adhesion between the surface and coating. Cleaning with a pressure washer is necessary before blasting.

The coating can be applied with a stiff brush, a short-haired solvent-resistant roller, or by airless spraying. The working time at 23°C is approximately 2 hours. At lower temperatures, the product's pot life increases, and at higher temperatures, it decreases. The next coat can be applied after a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum of two days at 23°C. Higher temperatures shorten the interval, while lower temperatures extend it. Freshly applied coating should be protected from moisture, condensation, and water for at least 24 hours after application.
