Basic principles and recommendations when working with epoxy resins
Epoxy resins can be cured in several ways: chemical (through hardener); by heating or by UV light. For the preparation of decorative products, resins are used which harden under normal conditions by chemical means - by the addition of a hardener. This means that we have a set of 2 components - resin and hardener. Both are liquid and mixed immediately before work. Typically, quantities are pre-calculated and sold in prepared kits to facilitate the work of the customer. In this case it is only necessary to mix the composition of component 1 with that of component 2. The measurements can be by weight or by volume. It is extremely important to pay attention to this because, because of the different density of the formulations, 100 grams are NOT equal to 100 milliliters! Accordingly, if weight parts are mentioned, then the customer should weigh the comonents, if it is said by volume, then measure by volume.
!!! Please follow the manufacturer's recommendations strictly. Any arbitrariness can lead to disappointing end results.
Adding more hardener will result in incomplete curing of the resin and obtaining the so-called soft spots. That is, more hardener does not mean that the resin will harden faster and, respectively, that less hardener will give you more time to work. Not enough hardener will make the coating impossible to harden and you will have to mechanically remove everything and start over again.
